Quarter Finals!

MRFC vs Costa Rica

Costa Rica started off very fast. They were quicker and it paid off 5minutes in. They played a through ball up the middle (Heard this story before) and got past our backs and finished. Andres Parra who is a starting midfielder was out due to injury was leading the club on the sideline. He made adjustments to the formation at the half and it showed. MRFC plays a 4-4-2 Andres changed it to a 3-4-3. MRFC was starting to get chances and really pressured Costa Rica. Ryan Olsen and newcomer David Neumont really produced up top. While Sammy and Carlos started to push up from the midfield. With 5 minutes left in the match the ball was put into the middle of Costa Ricas box and headed out to a waiting Carlos Stein who blasted a 25 yard bullseye lower corner past a helpless keeper. The game changed from that moment. MRFC continued and went into overtime pressing Costa Rica. No goals scored in OT so straight to spot kicks where MRFC has not lost a match. Nothing changed today as Mirnes the Bosinian bully buried the 5th take to end the match.

MRFC vs USA (Aegean Hawks)

Aegean Hawks is top side in Mens amatuer football. They are probably top 5 in the country. MRFC knew this but loves a challenge. We have a great respect for this side because we know most of the players and are friends on and off the pitch. The game started with both sides feeling each other out and ball control going back and forth. The Hawks played a long diaganol ball to a midfielder who beat 2 MRFC players and calmly passed the ball past Caco for 1-nil. A few minutes later MRFC stormed back and was causing the Hawks all types of problems and got a corner kick. Titou took it and found David Neumont back post who headed it in from 3 yards out to level the match. 1-1 at the half. Second half the Hawks took control and showed their fitness and finished off a through ball which Caco could not get to. 2-1 MRFC had chances as Juele really caused them problems and when Titou was involved on the left we got chances. Carlos had a chance inside the 18 and headed weakly to the keeper. He was always man marked and when in the box him and Ryan were double teamed. Fatigue set in for MRFC and the Hawks finished them off with a breakaway for 3-1. MRFC had chances but the Hawks were the better side and they will play El Salvador(MISL ALL STAR TEAM) in the finals at RFK stadium tonight 10pm 10/4/08. Goal of the tourney has to go to MR. Jeff Withers with the wonderstrike against Boliva!

Capital Cup Group Stages!

MRFC is Columbia in this tournament. It is a world Cup style tournament that brings top clubs together. MRFC is in the group of El Salvador, Liberia and Boliva. El Salvador was the first challenge. MRFC scored from a foul which the ref should have let advantage but did not so we had to settle for the draw nil nil

Second match against Boliva who beat El Salvador 2-1. Plain and simple Jeff Im going to shoot and score from 35 yards out Withers was the MVP of this match. His strike was golden. Left footed amazing pure class. MRFC controlled this match and Nick Keng Son ended it with a clinical finish in front of the net from a cross. 2 nil.

Third match against Liberia who beat Boliva but lost to El Salvador. Liberia was a fast side but very unorganized. MRFC controlled the tempo most of the match and with a foul outside the 18 free kick specialist Carlos Stein stepped up and buried past the keeper who was second guessing. 1-0 MRFC. MRFC continued to put pressure on them as Titou and newcomer Alun just kept making them look so bad with their big boy moves. In the second half there was a foul 25 yards out on the right flank. Carlos Stepped up and crossed it to Jarrod who calmly finished the ball past keeper for 2 nil. MRFC advance to the knockout stage. We will keep you up to date.
